Join us for three creative seminars every Wednesday, 16–30 August, focusing on creating immersive and impactful brand, world and character creation. 

1) Brand & Visual Identity Development
A seminar on how to develop commercial sustainability with a strong visual identity and brand design. We learn how to build cohesive aesthetics and how to collaborate with designers, illustrators, photographers, and motion & live action creatives, building good relationships to help elevate your work and facilitate their creativity too! Roll out core ideas into thematically & aesthetically coherent choices that increase the impact of your project by considering the entire audience experience from the first moment they hear about you through to associated events, merchandise, supplementary content & much more.

2) World Building: The Carl Sagan Approach to Building a Universe From Scratch

"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first limit the universe" - not quite Carl Sagan

In this seminar we look at key strategies for building cohesive new worlds to house your story, game and characters. We explore the seemingly contradictory notion of limitation as freedom. By creating rules and restrictions of your very own - forging your own laws of physics - we can give birth to endless, but cohesive possibility. We explore how to make any entirely invented world, in sci-fi, fantasy, magic or 'impossible' genres that still make sense. By working on your own internal sense, logic and rationalisation of your worlds, you will allow the audience to truly lose themselves in your project and fully experience your intentions with your project rather than being distracted by inconsistencies. We learn how to, again and again, make our own new and wild, entirely invented, but always delicious pies from scratch.

3) How to Create a Character: Narrative & Visual Development from Scratch
We teach ideation from absolute scratch and go through strategies for really understanding how character is forged through dynamic interaction with their surroundings - rather than planned in a vacuum. (Unless they live in a vacuum. That's up to you.) We emphasise and show you how to build a repository of raw materials from which you can endlessly create new work from; being inspired by your own practice & craft; the art of cross-sensory empathetic observation and translating hyper-observed specific details noticed from touch, taste, sound, smell and more, as well as day-to-day ephemera that others may take for granted - into deeply empathetic and universal characters. Consideration of comedy, contrast, conflict and other dynamics, tensions & ironies into improvisational approaches that can instantly explode out creative possibilities.
