Develop your own storytelling style, break ideas from scratch, tap into your own voice and drill down into the craft of narrative design development in our 5-week course.
At Ottodork, we've seen simple scene summaries confused with narrative design far too often. That's why we priortize theme-led storytelling, placing intentionality and values at the core of every story, which is the driving force behind compelling narratives.
We call this approach Dynamic Development, where we meticulously craft custom-designed, rhythmic-led structures that experientially communicate and resonate with audiences. Through this method, we delve into your values and ideas, to ensure that your story feels like you, instead of insterting generic dialogue into pre-assigned beats, resulting in cookie-cutter and mediocre narratives – a horror we wish to avoid.
Drawing on our extensive 20 years of experience, we share improvisational and dynamic techniques that will enable you to break stories from scratch within minutes. We think that concepts like "writer's block, "waiting for inspiration" or "needing a muse" are destructive fallacies. They act as gatekeeping excuses that limit the accessibility of writing. We firmly believe that writing is a learnable and repeatable craft, and once mastered, it becomes magic.
Led like a writers' room, this course places an emphasis on visual storyboarding. Don't worry if you think you "can't draw" – we'll teach you the essentials of storyboarding too! Throughout the course, we'll employ a mix of teaching strategies for breaking stories from scratch, enabling you to leave with a host of brand new ideas. Additionally, we'll dedicate some time to act as a Lab Consultancy to analyze, as a group, any challenges you may be facing in your own stories, uncovering any underlying core issues.
Whether you're new to our Dynamic Development approach or have previously taken our classes, this course is an essential step towards developing your own voice and mastering the art of creating one compelling story after another. We're very excited about this course and to see your creative growth.
